RV Solar Kits
By the time you’ve decided to take your savings and buy an RV so you can spend your retirement hopping around the county, you probably aren’t interested in putting together a solar system. As such, RV solar kits are ideal for seniors on the go who enjoy the sunshine states.
Perhaps the hardest thing to decide is just how much power do you need from an RV solar kit. Since you already have an RV with a good battery, think of these RV solar power kits as a supplement to the existing battery power, there to keep the expensive RV battery from dying before its time.
If you’re just interested in running a few simple devices such as an electric can opener or a laptop computer, one of the smaller 100-200W systems could be plenty for your needs. These low power output RV solar panel kits are usually fairly inexpensive and tend to cost a fairly moderate $1 – 1.25 per watt
If, on the other hand, you want to use more energy intensive systems such as a toaster or a blow dryer, you certainly can. It’s all just a matter of getting a large enough system to support it. Even if you only use the high powered device once or twice a day it doesn’t average out or anything. You want to decide how much you’ll be likely to use at any one time, maximum, and then add 20% for headroom. Even mid-sized solar RV kits can be used to power the devices you’re grown accustomed to. A 4-500 watt should do a good job in most applications.
While the price of RV solar kits should be coming down any day now, they have yet to do so, simply because the demand part of our market economy. As soon as production really gets up to speed between 2010 and 2012, the price should start to come down, but in the meanwhile, the price of kit systems or components on the ala carte menu will remain somewhat high.
Tax incentives in countries such as Japan and Germany have really had a profound impact on the worldwide solar panel market. As such, one will be better off using smaller panels such as those commonly found in the kits because they are far more available at this time.
When it comes to hitting the road, there are few things more aggravating that having to replace an expensive RV battery because your RV appliances drained it to nothing. When you’re using the abundant stores of the sun, you’re limited primarily by your budget. Be sure and periodically check to make sure your panels are very firmly attached to the roof, or they could cause a very serious accident.
